Ancient Zagora

The Ancient Zagora is one of the oldest settlement of Andros island. It was first inhabited in 1000 and thrived for 200 years about without being inhabited later on.

The findings of the excavations which where made by australian and greek archaeologists (1960-1977) are reduced on the geometrical times and today are exhibited in the archaeological museaum in Andros town-Hora.

The settlement was built on the peninsula close to Zaganiaris village. It was very well and naturally embattled, while there was a very long wall all around the settlement, 110 m. long, 2-5 m. thick, and 7 m. high.

Today, the visitor can hardly see some parts of the wall and ruins of houses.
